This theses focuses on Olga Krijtova (1931-2013), Czech translator from Dutch. The aim is to introduce Olga Krijtova within the framework of reception of Dutch literature in Czech cultural environment. In order to explore this framework, the thesis compares Czech and Dutch culture from translatological point of view, outlines the history of Czech-Dutch relationshiops and Dutch literary translations into Czech, as well as the history and current state of the academic discipline of Dutch studies. In the 20th century, Olga Krijtova had contributed greatly to making the Dutch literature available for Czech recipients. The thesis aims to find out how many translations done between the years 1957-2016 are Krijtova's or her students' work. Further, it summarizes her teaching and linguistic work. However, the main focus is her translation activities, which is studied by means of translation analysis in the second part of the thesis. The final aim is to review and interpret Krijtova's translation strategies and methods, as well as to assess her overall contribution to the reception of Dutch literature within the Czech environment and to the Dutch studies in the Czech Republic. Typology of shifts in translations of novels by Santiago Gamboa from Spanish into Czech

The thesis is focused on analyzing the most common translation shifts in the translations of Santiago Gamboa's novels Perder es cuestión de método (1997) and Necrópolis (2009). The theoretical part is based on the presentation of novels and on the analysis of their reception in Spanish-speaking countries and in the Czech Republic. The work also presents two Czech translators, editors and Czech publishing houses, which published these books. The practical part is devoted to the analysis of translation shifts in both translations, we work here with the theory of expression changes and with the theory of shifts in the translation by Anton Popovic (1975, 1983), specially, we focus on individual shifts (lexical instantiations, transcription, omitting of significance, inserting of significance etc.). Translation as a mode of culturally educating activities of Božena Šimková

The thesis focuses on culturally educating activities of Božena Šimková aimed at children and teenagers. Both her own literary and her translation work are analysed in the thesis and the situation of original and translation creation at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as well. Last part deals with translatological analyses of six representative extracts from her translation of Little women and tendencies drawn from this analysis are compared with some of her other translations. Reception and Czech translations Story of O, a novel by Pauline Réage

1 Abstract The thesis describes the reception and Czech translations of Story of O by Pauline Réage, an erotic novel which was considered scandalous in its time (1954) and became part of the canon of French contemporary prose. In the first part, the thesis characterizes the structure and style of Story of O. It then presents the specific context of its first publication and places the novel in the evolution of French literature. In this part, the thesis also attempts to describe the reception context in the fifties and compares the situation with how the novel is perceived by the current literary scene and cultural domain in general. In this part of the reception analysis, the thesis relies on critical reviews in French periodicals and reactions on the internet. It also mentions the perspective of literary theoreticians on similarly themed works. In the second part, the thesis introduces two Czech translations and attempts to recreate the reasons which led to the publication of the first translation Příběh O.: krásná z Roissy, Tabu, 1991 by Lucie Erbenová and the second translation Příběh O; Návrat do Roissy, Host, 2005 by Matěj Turek. The aim of this Master Thesis is to provide the reader with an annotated literary translation of the book Palabras Envenenadas written by the Spanish author Maite Carranza. The first part of the thesis presents in total of 6 translated chapters of the novella Palabras Envenenadas. The second part focuses on presenting the information about the author and the style of the book as well as the role of the original and the translatated text in the source and target culture context, the development of the translation analysis and translation methods while discussing the translation problems and their solutions. On Professional Text Translation

(in English): The work in this diploma contains the special syntactic structural features of Russian and Czech historical and political science texts. The author of the work takes as a theoretical starting point the principle that Russian scientific texts use more condensed forms of expression than Czech scientific texts, and uses evidence in this diploma to verify the truth of this principle. Quantitative research was carried out to test this theory via examination of Czech and Russian historical and political science texts in both original and translated forms. The original criteria for the choice of texts used was thematic closeness, time period of text creation and a minimum length of 5,000 words. This criteria was later expanded to 7,000 words for original texts and 9,000 words for original texts and their translations. In addition to this a translation analysis was carried out concerning condensation devices, expression dynamics and the implicitness and explicitness of the text. The contrastive analysis of applied condensation devices of Czech and Russian texts adheres to the classification framework of Czech linguist Milan Jelinek. Translation of technical texts from German into Czech

The aim of this thesis is to provide an insight into the translation of technical texts from German to Czech. The theoretical part discusses the present state of knowledge of technical translation in Czech and German speaking countries, the scientific discourse, text typology and classification of texts with regard to the context. Furthermore, this thesis describes contrasts of technical texts, and their characteristic features on a lexical, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic and text level. This thesis focuses on technical translation of medical texts with their most common text types and specific features, and explains implications for their translation from German to Czech. The empirical part of the thesis includes translation analysis of a chosen text type and an overview of main text types in medicine, followed by examples of parallel texts in Czech and German. To provide more objective information about translation of technical texts, a survey was carried out among translators and translation services agencies. The subsequent results were compared with the findings presented in the theoretical part. In the conclusion, this thesis summarizes the results of the research into the translation of technical texts from German to Czech with regard to medical texts and offers suggestions for further research.

Between Literalism and Purism - Translations of Karel Havlíček Borovský's German Family Correspondence

This thesis analyzes the Czech translations of Karel Havlíček's German family correspondence. The translations are from the turn of the 20th century, from the 1940s, and from the present day. In the introduction, the present-day situation concerning the publication of Havlíček's correspondence is outlined. After that, the thesis focuses on the skopos theory as the main theoretical base for the analysis. Then the thesis turns to the life of Karel Havlíček with a focus on his student years. In the analytical section, the individual translators and the origination of the translations are introduced. Selected translations are then analyzed. The primary objective of the thesis is the evaluation of translation strategies and methods used by the translators of Karel Havlíček's family correspondence with regard to translation conventions and social and historical changes.

Dramatic production of Francophone African authors in Czech translation

v anglickém jazyce This thesis deals with the dramatic production of Francophone African authors and the translation of their texts into Czech. The theoretical part briefly describes the history of African drama and its specific elements. The following chapters examine the perception of this specific genre in Europe - especially in France and the Czech Republic. The thesis also documents the history of the Czech festival Africa in Creation, which has been held in Prague in the first decade of the new millennium. During its existence, it presented many African authors. Later, their plays were translated into Czech within the series The Contemporary play, published by the Arts and Theatre Institute. From the point of view of translatology, the study focuses on the general theory of the drama translation (based on the theories of translation from the 2nd part of the 20th century, especially the Czech model of Jiří Levý) and the post-colonial and cultural translation theories. This thesis consists of two parts: the first one is a Czech translation of two parts of the 6th chapter from the book "Birthing Fathers: The transformation of Men in American Rites of Birth" by Richard K. Reed, the second one is an analysis of the translation. The analysis begins with an outline of the intratextual and extratextual factors of the original text (according to Christiane Nord), it is followed by an overview of the most salient issues, which emerged during the process, and their solutions, then the analysis deals with the translation shifts and ends with the description of the chosen translation method. The text itself tackles the issue of men in the pocess of birth and is based on an anthropological research.
